For the past two years, Apple and several Chinese phone makers have been supporting satellite connectivity technology. Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy phones have lacked satellite connectivity features. Now, Samsung Android apps are showing early signs of preparation for satellite connectivity technology.
Samsung is now preparing to bring the satellite connectivity feature to Galaxy devices. Meanwhile, the Korean tech giant has reserved it for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S24 series, and the upcoming flagship Galaxy S series devices. Now, a report has hinted at the arrival of this feature in several Samsung communication apps.
According to AndroidAuthority, APK teardowns have been done on several Samsung apps, which reveal that some of the original Samsung Android apps such as Emergency SOS(version 15.5.00.14), Samsung Messages (version 15.5.10.39), and Samsung Phone app (version 15.2.80) are showing signs of satellite messaging feature. Now, we can expect it to be rolled out to general consumers with Android 15 later this year.
The recently launched Apple iPhone, Huawei, and Honor models are equipped with satellite connectivity technology. Moreover, Huawei’s flagship smartwatch is also capable of sending SOS via satellite. Therefore, Samsung is in no mood to lag behind its competitors in terms of what has become a basic functionality in the industry.
