Samsung’s latest image sensors deliver stunning results from every angle, setting a new standard for mobile photography, so we can expect many Android smartphone brands, including Samsung, to use these sensors in the future. Plus, it is almost certain to debut with the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Samsung 200MP ISOCELL HP9, 50MP ISOCELL GNJ, and 50MP ISOCELL JN5 camera sensors announced
Samsung announces 200MP ISOCELL HP9, 50MP ISOCELL GNJ, and 50MP ISOCELL JN5 camera sensors, bridging the gap between main and sub cameras for better imaging from all angles.
Jaesuk Lee, Executive Vice President and CTO of the System LSI Sensor Business Team at Samsung Electronics said, “Enhancing image sensor performance and bridging the gap between main and sub cameras to offer a consistent photography experience across all angles is the new direction of the industry. We will continue to set industry standards and push technological boundaries with our new lineup of mobile sensors that integrate the latest advancements.”
Industry’s First 200MP ISOCELL HP9 Telephoto Sensor
The ISOCELL HP9 is the industry’s first 200MP camera sensor, which has a 1/1.4-inch optical format and 0.56µm pixels. Samsung claims that it improved focus with 12% better light sensitivity (based on signal-to-noise ratio 10) and 10% improved autofocus contrast performance compared to the previous sensor, the ISOCELL HP3.
Additionally, powered by the Remosec algorithm, the ISOCELL HP9 offers 2x or 4x in-sensor zoom modes, which achieve up to 12x zoom when paired with the 3x zoom telephoto module, while maintaining clear image quality.
ISOCELL GNJ
The new Samsung ISOCELL GNJ camera uses a dual pixel sensor with 50 million 1.0μm pixels in a 1/1.57-inch optical format. Similar to the way human eyes focus, each pixel has two photodiodes, enabling fast and accurate autofocus. The image sensor also simultaneously captures full-color information for quick focus with consistent image quality.
The advanced high-transmittance anti-refractive layer (ARL), integrated with Samsung’s proprietary high-refractive microlense, enhances light transmission reduces unwanted reflections, and ensures that dark areas are not overly brightened for more accurate photos with well-preserved image details. This sensor is also more energy efficient, consuming 29% less power in preview mode and 34% less power when recording 4K 60fps video.

ISOCELL JN5
The third Samsung ISOCELL JN5 camera uses 50MP 0.64μm pixels in a 1/2.76-inch optical format. To increase charge transfer within pixels, it used Dual vertical transfer gate (Dual VTG) technology, substantially reducing noise in extremely low light conditions for clearer image quality.
The ISOCELL JN5 improves camera shooting speed by employing hardware remosaic algorithms, as well as enabling real-time zoom in both preview and capture modes without any delay. Thanks to its slim optical format, it can be used for main and sub-cameras including wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, front, and telephoto – promising a consistent camera experience from a variety of angles.
