Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 at Unpacked 2024 just last week. Whatever Samsung is preparing in the background, these are the only two new foldable devices we have so far in 2024. Now, there are reports that Samsung wants to make the next Galaxy Z Fold phone as thinner as a regular bar-type phone.

One of the features that impressed consumers the most about the Galaxy Z Fold 6 was the phone’s thinness, which is 1.3mm slimmer and 14 grams lighter than its predecessor.

According to KEDGlobal, TM Roh, president and head of Samsung’s Mobile Experience (MX) division, now wants the next Galaxy Fold phone to be thinner. According to the report, TM Roh has instructed Samsung engineers to make the next Galaxy Z Fold phone thinner than the bar-type Galaxy S24’s thickness of 7.7 millimeters when folded.

As we know, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 12mm thick when folded and weighs 239 grams. It is slightly less in both thickness and weight compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 model.

The report suggests that Samsung is also working on reducing the weight of the next foldable to less than 239 grams. Also, the South Korean tech giant may unveil a 10mm Galaxy Z Fold6 slim model by the end of this year and make the successful model even thinner in the coming years.

TM Roh said that despite being thinner, Samsung’s next foldable smartphone is likely to have a larger 8-inch screen as compared to the 7.6-inch Z Fold6 screen.
