After years of waiting, Apple has finally decided to introduce an RCS update for iPhone users. The RCS update aims to improve the messaging between Android phones including Galaxy phones and iPhones. Currently, the feature is under beta testing phases still, it is anticipated to be launched within the next few months with the public release of iOS 18.
As per the GSMA Association (GSMA), RCS has released (via 9To5Google) a new update (Universal Profile 2.7) to the standard. The new update offers extended messaging features. The Universal Profile 2.7 for RCS was released in June 2024. It aims to improve RCS interoperability between Android phones and iPhones.

The new update rolled out with numerous messaging features like replying to an individual message, reacting to selected messages and custom reactions to messages, and editing/deleting/recalling sent messages. It also includes a spam reporting system for person-to-person messaging, to potentially reduce spam through crowdsourcing efforts.
With the introduction of the RCS update users are not required to use SMS as a form of emoji reaction. Instead, emojis will directly appear on the summit of the associated message. It will not only enhance user experience but also make the emoji reaction convenient.
Moreover, this RCS update supports custom reactions, which allow users to utilize existing or generated images as stickers to express reactions. This feature makes communication more interactive and convenient.
Currently, all these features are not available, as the update is in its beta phase. The iPhones that are running iOS 18 do not support in-line replies, thus, the replies from Android phones appear as separate messages without referencing the original message. However, Apple needs to implement in-line replies for RCS messages in its upcoming update.
