Samsung has consistently proven that it’s the best in the industry when it comes to delivering software updates to its devices. As you probably already know, many of Samsung’s Galaxy S24 flagships are eligible for seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. Well, now you can add the company’s new foldable device to this list as well. That’s right, the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 will get up to seven years of Android OS software updates.

In case you’re wondering, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 comes with Android 14. This is the first foldable Samsung phone to launch with long-term software updates support, making Galaxy Z Fold 6 better than the Galaxy Z Flip 6 in terms of handling productivity and other daily tasks. The fact that it comes with Android 14 means it will support up to Android 21 or whatever Google decides to name its software releases in 2030. This depends on how Google embraces its Android update rollout in the future, but we’ll update this space later if/when that happens.
In addition to seven major Android OS updates, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will also receive security updates for seven years as well, meaning it’s covered till the year 2030. The frequency of these security updates is, of course, bound to reduce towards the end of this tenure, but you can expect the device to be supported for at least seven years, similar to the Galaxy S24 series.
It remains to be seen whether factors like parts availability will cause problems for Samsung’s seven-year update plan. Galaxy Z Fold 6 owners will, at the very least, have to replace their phone’s battery every few years, as batteries degrade as they get older and their charge-holding capacity decreases.
