“Discovery” is the name of the game when managing an app store; you should always be presenting your users with the greatest, most helpful new apps available. To do that successfully, one must go much beyond simply showcasing lists of the top ten applications available; prosperous app shops make a concerted effort to identify the interests of their users. Recently a report that Google is testing a new “interests” setting for app discovery, it appears that the Play Store may be becoming more transparent about how it accomplishes this.
Although we still don’t fully understand how this might operate, its nature is nonetheless supported by some convincing data. With the Google Play Store latest version 41.7.16-31, Android Autority found that the user may now manage saved interests with new options available on the general settings tab. With different settings for apps and games, the app describes how these determine “what you want to see on Play.” If a user decides not to use the feature, they can also disable interests.
Perhaps the more pressing query is how this discovery feature will appear within the Play Store user interface. While perusing games, we managed to catch a little peek of it, but the Store has not shown much enthusiasm to bring it back. Interests are probably meant for the “For you” page, in our opinion. These choices in the app’s settings are currently the best proof that it even exists.

We’ll be watching to see how Google Play Store plans to put these interests into practice because we think it’s a really exciting idea, especially if Google gives users the ability to express exactly what kind of software they’re most eager to try. Is it possible to manually spell it out in the Play Store? Or will the algorithm be attempting to guess what you want more likely in this situation? Hopefully, the complete picture of interests will be available soon.
