According to a report last month, Samsung’s 3nm Exynos chip will enter mass production in the second half of 2024. It will “aggressively” increase the adoption of its 3nm Exynos 2500 processor for the upcoming Galaxy S25 series smartphones. It has recently been reported that all three Galaxy S25 models will get the next-generation chipset, called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 globally. There will be no variant with the rumored Exynos 2500 chipset.

The prospect of a Snapdragon processor has already got a lot of fans excited, as some were not happy with Samsung’s decision to bring back Exynos with this year’s Galaxy S24 series, as last year’s Galaxy S23 lineup delivered pretty good results just by being Snapdragon-powered. Now, it seems the Korean firm is reportedly working hard to ensure that some variants of the Galaxy S25 flagship use the Exynos 2500.

According to a report by ZDNet, Samsung is working to address yield concerns about the Exynos 2500 for the Galaxy S25 series. The report also says that the company is trying its best to avoid relying entirely on Qualcomm for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in its next flagship smartphone.

Previously, this yield was in the very low range which was not ideal for a flagship device. However, the company has reportedly been able to improve the process which has helped bring the yield up to 20%.

An improvement of 20% is a significant improvement, but it is still not enough. The report states that the yield must be at least 60% for the chip to enter mass production. According to the report, the company needs to realistically achieve this by the third quarter of this year so that the chipset can go into Galaxy S25 units that will be released in the first quarter of 2025. Whether or not this happens remains to be seen.
