Samsung’s latest security update details are now fully public. The August 2024 security patch is scheduled to be released by Samsung soon for its compatible Galaxy smartphones and tablets; high-end models may receive the update early.
Following Google’s Sunday release of the Android August 2024 security patch details, Samsung made available details regarding its own August 2024 security patch. Fifty security flaws in the prior software are fixed. 35 of those fixes—one classified as critical and the other 34 as high severe—were supplied by Google. Additionally, Samsung Semiconductor—Samsung’s chip-making division—has contributed one fix.
Only Galaxy tablets and smartphones are compatible with the 14 security updates that Samsung has released. Twelve of those updates are described in detail by the South Korean company on its security bulletin webpage. The majority of them have to do with inappropriate access control in various system functions. Additionally, improper access control was discovered in the system property, Knox, Galaxy Watch, and ExtControlDeviceService.
Several functions in the code, notably libcodec2secmp4vdec.so and libsmat.so, also had out-of-bound problems. When there was inadequate authorization, processing in SumeNNService, Telephony, and KnoxDualDARPolicy was improper.
The librtp. so function was discovered to have improper input validation. These incorrect input validation, out-of-bound, and improper access control problems provide hackers access to your device’s data without authorization and can even cause the device to malfunction. This week, the company may begin to deploy the August 2024 security patch to Galaxy tablets and smartphones.
Samsung may begin distributing the One UI 6.1.1-based software update to its high-end handsets with its upcoming release. It might update older smartphones with many new features as well as some of the Galaxy AI capabilities that were first seen on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 last month.
