Cross-device services are being rolled out by Google to Android smartphones. Additionally, a new Android Cross-device Call-casting capability would be added to Samsung Galaxy phones. On Galaxy devices, however, the Internet sharing feature will not be available. Google unveiled the initial batch of cross-device services after I/O 2024.
Samsung to bring Android Cross-device Call-casting to its devices
The business has started rolling out Instant Hotspot and Call Casting for Android smartphones. Distribution is taking place bit by bit, starting with the Beta channel. You’ll find it under Cross-device services under Settings > Google > Devices and Sharing. After receiving it, you must activate these preferences on the devices you have signed in to create your “device group” by following the setup instructions.
Casting calls: “Transfer calls from this device to other nearby devices that are logged into your Google Account.” Some apps are the only ones that support call casting. When you switch devices, such apps might receive some information about your devices. “Your other devices can cast video calls to the device you’re using when they are turned on.” The casting feature is presently supported for Google Meet.
The Cast icon allows you to transfer a video call from your desktop browser to your tablet or Android phone. You can allow your device to automatically share hotspot access with other devices on your network. To share the internet across devices that are logged in with the same Google account, Bluetooth and device location must be enabled.
Similar functionality already exists in Samsung Galaxy handsets under the name Auto hotspot. Therefore, Samsung devices are unable to use Android’s Internet sharing feature. You can toggle each function on and off, and Google will show you your device groupings.
