Samsung has been quite consistent in terms of rolling out software updates to its Galaxy devices. It is one of those companies that has consistently shown how reliable it is when it comes to firmware support. If you don’t know, Samsung’s newly launched Galaxy S24 flagship devices are eligible for seven major Android updates and up to seven years of security updates. This is similar to the promise made by Google for its Pixel phones. The list of Samsung devices eligible to receive seven major Android software updates is already quite short, and it’s interesting the company is adding its Galaxy Z Flip 6 to that list as well.
In a press release, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will get software updates for seven years after launch as part of the company’s environmental sustainability efforts. That’s three additional years compared to existing Galaxy foldable phones.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 runs Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1 out of the box, meaning it will be supported all the way up to Android 21 — or whatever Google decides to call it at that time. These updates will include new versions of Android and One UI, new security patches, and more feature updates.

This new policy will keep foldable devices updated until at least 2031, or Android 21 if the naming convention continues. Although the brand hasn’t promised it, phones will continue to receive security updates and critical patches even after the cutoff date.
The Korean firm has consistently proven that it is the best in the industry when it comes to software updates, so you can expect foldable smartphones to be treated the same way. The fact that these smartphones will be supported for so long into the future makes it much easier for us to use them.
